It’s Spooky Season I guess

Hello, gentle readers! Today, we have a post from the Queen Bee herself, Ms. Von D! (The humble person who took her dictation today may have cleaned up her grammar just a bit, but other than that, this is straight word-for-word from the kitty's mouth.) So they're preparing for Halloween here at Rapscallions and Corsets (or whatever dis place is called). I'm not given to having favorites, myself, but *if* I were, I suppose Halloween would be my favorite holiday. But a Queen doesn't concern herself with the holidays of plebes, you know. My personal can opener, who is here most of the day and (thankfully) leaves me alone at night, has been putting up decorations for the occasion. We have quite a few of them now. I might have been spotted attempting to play with some of them (allegedly), like the adorable crochet candy corn on the front desk that the dictation lady made. There are also skeletons everywhere and cute pumpkins and all sorts of other things that delight me. You should really come and take a peek. It's worth seeing--and if I say that, you know it's true.

Our shop has gotten even more popular with residents during the month of October, too. Many are coming in to visit me and also check out the merchandise (which, of course, is secondary to seeing me). Some of them, though, seem to be having trouble with the correct pronunciation of "Samhain." It's "sow" (as in the female pig, not reaping what you sow) + "in," so "sow-in" if you've never heard it pronounced out loud before. This should save you from looking foolish in front of me. I may not be able to properly pronounce the shop name, but I never mess up "Samhain." I'm also reminding readers that Neewollah here in Anniston will be on Saturday, October 25th, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on 12th Street and Noble Street. There will be live music, food, candy, a kid zone, and a costume contest. Children who stop by will be politely tolerated and allowed to pet me. Adults in costume who stop by will probably be snickered at, but also encouraged to pet.

Also, on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at 6:30 pm, I will be hosting ukulele night. This will be our second time having such an event. I had a fantastic experience the first time, and I'm sure the second one will be just as fantastic. So bring your ukulele and join in, or just come to listen (and pet me, naturally).

So if you would like to see me, be it during Neewollah, ukulele night, or any other time, I hold court from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday. On Monday, I get my (honestly unnecessary) beauty rest for the upcoming week. You can find anything you need here, from books to herbs, incense to crystals, and candles to tarot. As the CEO, I have helped to curate quite a collection of things, and I think you'll enjoy taking a look. The can opener will help you with whatever you need while I bask in the glorious sunshine near the windows. A Queen does not strain herself, after all, and, anyway, the lack of opposable thumbs makes me helping you rather difficult. But I *will* allow you to pet me if you ask nicely first. Also, I would like to mention that I, the Cat, Von D, have been featured in the latest issue of Foothills magazine. The photographer did an adequate job of capturing my majesty for posterity, so do check that out as well. I know you wouldn't want to miss an opportunity to gaze upon my lovely visage, now would you? I guess I should also thank the lady for writing down my words for this important memoir of meow.

-The Queen VonD
